Bacterial infections are a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Antibiotics have been hugely successful in improving health outcomes and have aided in the global reduction of under-5 mortality. While antibiotics are crucial in the treatment of infections caused by bacteria, one of the major concerns is the risk of resistance through their inappropriate use. To improve the appropriate use of antibiotics, antimicrobial stewardship programs have been set up with the aim of monitoring antibiotics use and ensuring that guidelines are strictly adhered to.
